Shortly after I began attending First Baptist Church of Olive Hill, Harvey introduced himself to me: "Harvey, like the invisible rabbit." I liked that. And we older folks get what he meant. He was the first member of the church to ask me to become a member.
Later, I heard Jenny call him Allen. I found out that his middle name is spelled the same as my first name. We agreed the our spelling of Allen is correct--not Allan, Alan, Allyn or whatever.
After Sunday morning services while Jenny was involved in Counting Committee work, Harvey and I would visit in the sanctuary. I learned a lot about him, especially about his being in the Navy and his career as a river barge captain.
I hope I remember correctly that he was a medic in the Navy and the Navy wanted him to stay on as a nurse. As a river boat captain, he said he spent every other Christmas at home. He said he spent a lot of time on the two rivers away from home. I told him that must have helped Jenny put up with him. He agreed.
I connected with Harvey when he called me "Theodore". He didn't know that is my middle name but always called me Theodore. I called him Old River Rat.
I miss Harvey Allen Kiser.

You have been in my prayers for weeks, and even more so now. I am so sorry for your loss. Harvey was always supportive of me in church and never without a witty comment. Few men are as respected and as reliable in their commitment to the church as he was, and he will be missed by all who knew him (including me). Wish I could be together with you to support you like you have always supported me, but know that I am only a call away if there is anything any of you need. Love you all so.
