Virgil "Dale" Harman Obituary

Virgil “Dale” Harman, age 82, of Grahn, Kentucky, entered into rest on Tuesday afternoon, August 26, 2025, at the Community Hospice Center in Ashland, Kentucky, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Dale was a man who lived life fully and simply. He found great joy in hunting, spending time with those he loved, listening to bluegrass music, keeping up with Fox News, and — most of all — talking on the phone, doing so with enthusiasm that could out match anyone.   He loved a good conversation and never let distance or time get in the way of staying connected. He was also a talented marksman and was incredibly proud to have been the 1994 Kentucky State Shoot, Ro-Ho Singles Champion. The photo chosen for Dale’s obituary shows him holding his championship trophy — a moment that filled his family with pride and joy, and one that perfectly captured the spirit of his quiet determination and competitive heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Virginia Harman; one brother, W. David Harman; and his beloved wife, Carol Harman, whom he missed dearly every single day.

He is survived by his one daughter and son-in law, Mary and Troy Fish of Hanover, PA; two sons and daughters-in-law, David & Sheila Harman of Olive Hill, KY; Howard and Megan Harman of Grahn, KY. Also surviving are his siblings: Brother Darryl (Marcia) Harman of Terrell, North Carolina; Sister Linda (Lee) Partain of Virginia. His cherished grandchildren include Kristin (Michael) Ballard, Katie (Cody) Warren, Amy Oakley and her companion Hayden Smedley, Aleea Oakley and her companion Brandon Mello, Matthew Oakley, Kaitlyn Maggard, four great-grandchildren along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his family, Dale had two very special friends he considered family: Kerry Dale & Hurline Jarvis, David & Tina Marcum and Brandi and David Manning.  Dale also shared a special bond with his loyal cat, Cloudy, who remained faithfully by his side through it all — a quiet companion and constant comfort during his final days. Dale will be missed deeply by everyone who knew him. The aroma of his morning pot of coffee and the sound of Fox News playing in the background were part of daily life — now, their absence leaves a quiet void in the hearts of those who loved him.

His granddaughter, Kaitlyn, captured Dale’s spirit best when she said: “My grandfather didn’t tell me how to love; he watched me live and helped me along the way. You’re gone but never forgotten.”

Following Dale's wish's there well be no public visitation or services.
