Mark Anthony Oney, age 50, of Olive Hill, KY entered into rest Wednesday March 19, 2025, at UK King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY. He was born September 11, 1974, in Ashland, KY a son of the late Everette and Gloria “Jean” Conn Oney.
Mark’s happiness was connecting with the world around him and his faith in God. His walk-through town was often one of routine, but his greatest joy —he had an open, welcoming heart that was always willing to engage, even if it was just with a wave or a nod. His simplicity and sincerity left a lasting impression on anyone he met.
He was a friend to everyone, his kindness shining through in small, everyday interactions. Whether he was walking down Main Street or the Bluegrass Festival, his joy for life and his stereo brought an energy to our town that will not be forgotten.
Mark is survived by his sisters, Melissa Jordan (Johnny) of Grayson, KY and Crystal Oney of Olive Hill, KY; his brothers, Timmy and Kenny Burchett, both of Olive Hill; two nephews, Johnathan Jordan and Eric Stewart; and two nieces, Jessica Jordan and Erin McKenzie. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Jim “Jimmy” Oney.
And though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the music that played through his stereo and the quiet, steady walk that defined his days.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Duvall and Moore Funeral Home in Olive Hill KY with Bro. Bob Donavan Officiating. All are welcome to gather and remember the man who loved his music and his town, and whose heart was as loud as his stereo. Burial will follow at the Garvin Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 149 Whitt Street, Olive Hill, KY.
