Larry Hignite, 84, of Olive Hill, KY, entered into rest Thursday, December 5, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Olive Hill, KY September 23, 1940, a son to the late Joe and Cora Tomlin Hignite.
Larry was retired Coal Prep Plant Operator with Wolfe Creek Collieries in Martin County, KY. Larry was a 24 Year member of the Solider Masonic Lodge #708, Olive Hill Eastern Star Chapter #290, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Valley of Covington, A member of the Racking Horse Breeders Association of America, Former board member of KYOWVA Horse Show Association. Larry owned and operated L&L Stables and Spent 52 to years in the Horse Show Industry,
His love of horses led him to be an excellent rider and the “World’s Greatest Ground Man”. He Trained many World Champions, under his guidance he put both of his children in the Winner’s Circle more times than can be counted.
Most importantly, he was a Christian and a son of God. He gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized in The Church of the Firstborn many years ago. He and Sandy instilled this love in their children, giving them this greatest gift.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son-in-law Mike Hancock; three sisters, Lorene Foster, Ruth Hignite, and Donna (Charles) Morgan; one brother, Stanton Hignite, Tillman Hignite; and two brothers-in-faith, Jack Lane and Gene Drane.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sandra Jones Hignite; one son, Larry L (Tresa) Hignite of Olive Hill, Ky; one daughter, Lucinda (Jeff Smith) Hancock of Olive Hill, Ky; one sister, Opal Harr; One brother Orel Hignite; six grandchildren, Laryn Hignite, Eli Hancock, Chad Hancock, Miranda Perrell, Chassi Lege, Emilee Hamilton; eight great-grandchildren, Brody Hignite, Braxton Bradford, Aubree McKenzie, Isaiah Buckner, Breanna Cundiff, Kingston Hamilton, Grahm Hamilton; and Three great-great-grandchildren, Emma-Jean Buckner, Bentley Cundiff and Ross Cundiff
As we mourn the passing of our loved one hold fast to the fact that he is rejoicing with the Master Carpenter along with Brother Gene and Brother Jack.
Graveside Services will be conducted 3:30 PM Sunday December 8, 2024 at the Olive Hill Memorial Park with Andy Lyons officiating. Burial will follow in Olive Hill Memorial Park
Friends may visit at 12:00 PM- 3:00 PM Sunday, December 8, at the Duvall and Moore Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 149 Whitt Street, Olive Hill, KY.
Larry Hignite, Eli Hancock, Brody Hignite, Jeff Smith, Shawn Maggard, Chanc Jesse, Chad Hancock, and Braxton Bradford will serve as pallbearers.
