Joseph Greenhill Obituary

Joseph Scot Greenhill, 49 of Olive Hill, Kentucky, entered into rest, Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Scotty was born July 4, 1975, in Ashland, Kentucky. Scotty was of the Baptist faith and belonged to First Baptist Church of Olive Hill, Ky.

From an early age, Scotty was his daddy's child, hanging out in Ronny's garage where he developed an intuitive understanding of how motors worked from 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers, rail-buggies, trucks, to cars and motorcycles. It was around this time he earned the nickname of “Skeeter” which followed him throughout his life. By 12 years of age, he could already drive a truck and diagnose and fix any problems, like fixing the timing chain on a sibling’s vehicle.

Scotty’s love of horses began very young when he began hanging out at Mose Oppenheimer Stables where he learned the trade of a farrier and breaking of horses and mules.

In Scotty's professional life, he followed in his father's footsteps and developed into an elite welder and a twenty-seven-year member of Pipeliners Local Union 798 of Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he excelled in his craft and work ethic.

Scotty was an avid outdoorsman, and often claimed he could live in the woods away from the world for long periods of time but could not stay away from the people he cared the most about. He loved fishing, hunting, horseback riding, and riding his motorcycle, and like his father, he had a passion for racing.

Later in life, Scotty turned his expert welding skills into artistic projects. He had an eye for recycling metal materials from around the farm, to use in designing and creating custom gates and BBQ grills.

One of Scotty’s most endearing qualities was his ability to get to know anyone. From an early age, he was the child who never let a stranger stay a stranger for long. He was naturally curious and had a gift for bringing people into conversation, He loved to joke and make people laugh, and sometimes, if you were his friend, you had to hold onto your seat and shut your eyes, if you were loved by Scotty, you were his family. If he had a dollar, you had a dollar.

Scotty was preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents: Roy and Omega Slone Machen Sr., Earnest and Bess Moore Greenhill; one aunt, Roma June Greenhill Rimer; two uncles, Roy Machen II, Jack Greenhill; and one special cousin, Glenda Lee Rimer.

He is survived by his parents, Ronald J. “Ronny” and Elizabeth "Bette" Greenhill of Olive Hill; his son, Joseph Treston Greenhill of Richmond, Ky; his daughter, Grayce Elizabeth Greenhill of Olive Hill; his grandson, Jackston Greenhill; one brother, John (Amy) Greenhill of Maysville, Ky; two sisters, Falissa (Tim) Prout of Olive Hill and Janena (Greg) Reynolds of Olive Hill; two aunts, Mary Springer Machen of Plano TX,  Lois Skaggs Machen of Augusta, Ky; along with several nieces, nephews, friends and family who will mourn his passing. Scotty's spirit-- through his laughter, love, and strength--will never be forgotten by those who loved him.

A Memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
