John Phillip Lyons, Jr., 72, passed away surrounded by family Wednesday afternoon October 22, 2025, at Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington, WV. He was born on November 7, 1952, in Ashland, KY, a son of the late John Phillip Lyons Sr and Patricia Raybourn Knoblock of Napoleon, OH.
John was a retired pipefitter with Local 430 Tulsa, OK. He lived a life defined by family, humor, and heart. He found joy on horseback in earlier years—riding trails with his beloved horse, Pepper—and more recently in the time spent with his grandsons and the fellowship of his church community, where he especially enjoyed Church Dinners, Family Dinners, really any dinner.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by, his favorite son-in-law, Rick Fannin.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Diana Hedge Lyons; his loving daughters, Bridget Fannin and Stephanie Hager-Lyons; his cherished grandsons, Hunter Fannin and Garan Lyons, who brought him endless pride and joy; his sister, Cindy Lyons Conn, brother-in-law Troy Conn, his mother, Patricia Raybourn Knoblock, and her husband, William Knoblock, who remained a loving presence throughout his life. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that will cherish his memory.
John will be remembered for his quick wit, steady presence, and the kindness he extended to everyone who crossed his path. His memory will live on in every story shared, every laugh echoed, and every ride.
Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM on Saturday October 25, 2025, at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Bro. Roy Lands officiating. Burial will follow in the Rabourn Cemetery in Olive Hill, KY.
Visitation will be 11:00 AM-1:00 PM Saturday October 25, 2025 at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 149 Whitt Street, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
