John Preston “Johnny” Kitchen, 82, of Olive Hill, KY, entered into rest Monday afternoon, January 9, 2023, at his residence. He was born August 9, 1940, in Twin Branch, Lewis County, KY a son to the late Sam Kitchen and Ada Conley Kitchen.

Johnny was a member of and attended Three Pine Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, farming, and watching his grandkids play softball.  Johnny served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961. When he was younger, he played on the Texaco Sluggers softball team. Johnny was very active and involved with many activities in the community, including: serving on the Bethel Cemetery Board, and as Smokey Valley Precinct Chairman for the Carter County Republican Party. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and supported events at the Rattlesnake Ridge Community Center.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Willard, Jim Will, Charlie, Clifford, and an infant Mickal.

Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Edna Mae Stamper Kitchen; three sons, Glenn (Faye) Kitchen, Stephen (Jenny) Kitchen, and Joseph (Kelly) Kitchen, all of Olive Hill; two sisters, Edna Mae (Emeral) Roe of Vanceburg, and Lodena (Herb) Maggard of Ashland; two brothers, Lowell (Barb) Kitchen of London, KY, and Samuel Allen (Marcella) Kitchen of Olive Hill; five grandchildren, Erika (Christopher) Kitchen of Aviano, Italy, Morgan (Jeffery) Kitchen, LaMika Smith, Lacie Smith, all of Olive Hill, and Tyler Gregory of Sabina, OH; and two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Kitchen, and Fay Kitchen, both of Olive Hill. In addition to these, he leaves behind a host of family and friends that will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM, Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Bro. Gary Sparks and Bro. Terry Dean officiating.  Burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery.

Friends may visit 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Wednesday, January 11, 2023 and 9:00 AM until the time of service, Thursday, January 12, 2023; at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 149 Whitt Street, Olive Hill, KY.

Danny Stamper, Jeff Kiser, Jason Maggard, James Gilliam, David Gilliam, Earl Gilliam will serve as pallbearers.

Dale Stamper, David Gifford, and Daniel Jordan will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
