James “Jim” Othal Johnson
1944–2026
James “Jim” Othal Johnson, 81, of Olive Hill, KY entered into rest Wednesday morning, January 7, 2026, at UK – Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY. He was born on June 6, 1944 at Stovall Hospital in Grayson, KY, a son to the late Luther and Maybel Fankell Johnson.
For more than 30 years Jim earned a living as an owner/operator truck driver. He also enjoyed farming and drag racing. For 21 years he fulfilled his love for racing as the proud owner of Little Sandy Raceway. His work ethic and love for the sport not only fulfilled his own passion but built a community for other enthusiasts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Maxine Miller, Virginia Carter, Orilla Maggard, and Eva Nell Burchett; and 2 brothers, Ray Johnson and Harlan Wayne Johnson (infant).
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Wilma Gaye Spence Johnson; one son, James Darren (Misty Burchett) Johnson; two grandchildren Jeremy and Lincoln, and one sister, Betty Sullivan. In addition to these, he leaves behind a host of other family and friends who will cherish his memory.
To respect Jim’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. He will be laid to rest privately at Underwood Cemetery.
