1941 – 2023

Hugh Roger Root, age 82, of Olive Hill, KY entered into rest Friday afternoon, September 1, 2023 at his daughter’s residence in Franklin Furnace, OH.

Roger was born August 7, 1941 in Carter County, KY to the late J.B. and Ora Lee Babor Root. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Roger Root; two sisters, Barbara Lobb, and Jemma Lou Crawford; and one brother, Russell Root.

He is survived by his three daughters, Mary Sue Tolliver, Linda Lou Barney, and Margaret Ann (Terry) Romans; one sister, Anna Snell; one brother, J.B. Root; twelve grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Roger was a good christian man, serving as a deacon at James Chapel Community Holiness Church.  He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He also liked growing flowers and sitting on his front porch talking to his buddies.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the James Chapel Community Holiness Church with Bro. Darryl Garvin officiating. Burial will follow at the Olive Hill Memorial Park.

Friends may visit 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 6, 2023 and 9:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the James Chapel Community Holiness Church, 2491 State Hwy 1025, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.

His loving grandsons, Justin Richmond, Mitchell Richmond, David Griffith, Brian Romans, Danny Romans, J.J. Greer, William Smith, and Dillon Caldwell will serve as pallbearers.

All arrangements have been entrusted to Duvall & Moore Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 149 Whitt Street, Olive Hill, Kentucky.
