Helen J. Boggs
1946-2024
Helen J. Boggs reached her heavenly resting place, Saturday, December 14, 2024, at UK King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Ms. Helen was born on November 27, 1946, to the late Milford and Murriel Jones Boggs.
Helen was a servant from an early age and became a teacher. Her early years of teaching began at Elliott County Schools in Sandy Hook, Ky. Later, Helen began working for Carter County Schools where she taught students for over 50 years. After completing her bachelor’s degree in education at Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky, Helen continued her studies by earning Master’s and Rank 1 degrees. After retiring from Carter County Schools, Helen returned to work as a substitute for Carter County Schools. Ms. Helen’s love of teaching carried over to the Carter County Retired Teachers Association where she served as the Secretary/Treasurer.
Helen was baptized in September of 1963 at First Baptist Church of Olive Hill, Kentucky where she was affectionately known as Ms. Helen. She volunteered her time teaching children and youth about local and international missions as a teacher for Girls in Action, Youth on Missions, and Mission Friends. She also taught Sunday School for years and served as a youth leader for the last 15 years. Helen also served in Women on Mission, Betty Hanna, Greenup Baptist Association as well as served as WMU director for over 20 years.
Helen loved to watch old murder mysteries and especially the BBC channel and Father Brown. She loved traveling, exploring, and experiencing new places.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by two brothers; Charles Glendal Boggs, William Milford Boggs; one infant niece, Juanita Bell Boggs; and one beloved aunt, Emma DeHart.
Helen is survived by three brothers; Martin Valentine Boggs, Jackie Lee (Jearlean) Boggs, George Allen (Jean) Boggs; one sister-in-law, Wilma Boggs; one nephew Heith (Nancy) Boggs; four nieces, Marla Boggs, Anita (Jamie) Wagner, Heather (John) Wilburn, Mary (Aaron) Griffith; with numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, 365 East Tom T Hall Blvd, Olive Hill, KY, 41164, with Bro. Eddie Barker and Bro. Michael Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow at the Olive Hill Memorial Park with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
Friends may visit 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Monday, December 16, 2024, at First Baptist Church Olive Hill, 365 East Tom T Hall Blvd, Olive Hill, KY 41164.
