Gregory D. Stapleton, 76, of Olive Hill, Kentucky entered into rest, Tuesday afternoon, November 28, 2023, at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky after suffering a fall Saturday resulting in a fractured cervical vertebrae and stroke. He was born on April 25, 1947, in Carter County, Kentucky, to the late Paul Marcus and Doris Lorraine Wilburn Stapleton.
Greg lived in Centerville, Ohio most of his adult life where he and his late wife raised their family. He retired from Dayton Progress Corporation after 47 years of employment. He was of the Christian faith, and became a member of First Baptist Church of Olive Hill in 1968. He was a true blue Kentucky Wildcats boy’s basketball fan and enjoyed watching all their games. Greg was a lifetime muscle car enthusiast and was known locally for his fast yellow ’68 Chevy Chevelle in his younger years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his late wife of 49 years, Kathy King Stapleton; one son, Chadwick Dale Stapleton; one infant sister, Vickie Lynn Stapleton; and one niece, Rachel Melissa Frary.
Greg is survived by his loving wife of 2 years, Deborah Layne Stapleton, with whom he reconnected after 55 years of being teenage sweethearts; two daughters, Heather Martin (David Jarnagin) of Williston, Florida, and Jayla Greenhill Suttles of Olive Hill; one step-daughter, Chesla Blaydes Underwood (Jerry) of Olive Hill; two sisters, Teresa Stapleton of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and Rhonda Fouch of Berea, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Chandler Nester of Edgerton, OH, and Brandon Suttles (Amanda) of Olive Hill; two step-grandchildren, Blayde Fox of Lexington, and Ryan Fox of Nashville, TN ; and six great grandchildren, Nova and CJ Nester of Edgerton, OH, Brayleigh, Kyleigh, Klaryn Suttles, and Kentley Johnston of Olive Hill.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Sunday, December 3, 2023 at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Bro. Gary Sparks officiating.
Visitation will be held 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM, Sunday, December 3, 2023 at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 149 Whitt Street, Olive Hill, Kentucky.
