Gary Everett Baker, age 74, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed from this life Sunday, December 4, 2022, at his home. Gary was born April 18, 1948, in Olive Hill, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Eleanor Tackett Baker and the late Dan Baker.

Gary graduated from Olive Hill High School in 1967. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from August 1968 – October 1970 with two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Specialist-5/E-5.

After returning from service Gary worked seven years splicing cable for various telephone companies.  Following, he worked 28 years for Ashland Oil/Marathon Refineries in Catlettsburg, Kentucky until his retirement in 2004.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseback riding, gardening, watching NASCAR, and numerous other sports. He was a charter member of American Legion Post #138, serving in several positions including Post Commander in 1982. He was also a 38 year member of the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge #629.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Callie Ann Harris Baker; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Marie Baker (Scott) LaMar of Lewisport, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Nathan Bradford LaMar, and Natalie Ann LaMar, both of Lewisport, Kentucky; one sister, Linda Louise Baker Cantrell of McMinnville, Tennessee; one nephew, Phillip Bradford (Lauren) Baker; six nieces, Amelia Cantrell (Chad) Vance of Lebanon, Tennessee, Emily Cantrell (Chris) Hennessee of McMinnville, Tennessee, Laura Beth Baker (Mike) Brescoach, Rebecca Louise Baker Gordon, Veronica Yaeckel (Galen) Reed, and Samantha Yaeckel (Robert) Ginter; three sisters-in-law, Connie Harris (Randy) Baker, Cathie Harris, and Cindie Harris, all of Olive Hill; and one brother-in-law, Thomas Harris of Olive Hill. In addition to these he is survived by a host of extended family and friends who will greatly miss him and cherish his memory.

Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 PM, Friday, December 9, 2022, at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Olive Hill, KY, with Bro. Michael Blankenship and Bro. Landon Copley officiating. Burial will follow in the Tackett-Buckler Cemetery.

Friends may visit 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, December 8, 2022, and 9:00 AM until the time of service on Friday, December 9, 2022 at the Duvall & Moore Funeral & Cremation Service, 149 Whitt Street, Olive Hill, KY 41164.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post# 138 Scholarship Fund.

Joe Roark, Brent “Elmo” Tackett, Brad Baker, Phillip Carter, Donnie Cox, and Thomas Harris will serve as Pallbearers.

Larry Joe Tackett will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
