Evelyn (Gilbert) Sparks

Evelyn Gilbert Sparks, 82, of Olive Hill, KY entered into rest Tuesday evening, February 28, 2023 at her residence. She was born December 21, 1940 in Grahn, KY; a daughter of the late Ernest Gilbert and Lula Dean Gilbert.

Evelyn was of the Pentecostal faith. She worked as a seamstress at Cowden’s in Olive Hill, then volunteered at Olive Hill Elementary after she retired.  Evelyn loved caring for her family, was a huge fan of Elvis, and scrapbooking when she was younger. She loved everyone, and adopted so many as her own.  Evelyn never met a stranger, but if she did, they wouldn’t be a stranger for long.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leroy “Pee Wee” Sparks; one daughter, Connie Jo Sparks; one sister, Ona Gehrig; and six brothers, Woodrow Gilbert, Elwood Gilbert, Elmo Gilbert, Ernest Gilbert, Jr., Richard Gilbert, and Delmar Gilbert.

She is survived by six daughters, Angela Sparks, Elizabeth Sparks, Vickie Bair, Laurie (Bucky) Waddell, Gale (Butch) Dermon, and Denise (Michael) Adams; one son, Leroy “Jr.” (Mollie) Sparks; two sisters, Naoma Lawhorn, and Gerline Mays; three brothers, Homer Gilbert, Vernon Gilbert, and Elmer Gilbert; nineteen grandchildren, including two whom she raised, Bryan Sparks, and Keisha Sparks; and twenty-five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Sunday, March 5, 2023 at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Bro. Darrell Puckett officiating.  Burial will follow at the McKinney Cemetery.

Friends may visit 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Saturday, March 4, 2023 and 9:00 AM until the time of service, Sunday 18, March 5, 2023 at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 149 Whitt Street, Olive Hill, KY.

Bryan Sparks, Brandon Henderson, Bo Sparks, Boston Waddell, Bradley Sparks, and Brent Stinson will serve as pallbearers.

Phillip Henderson, Keisha Sparks, Michael Adams, and Bucky Waddell will serve as honorary pallbearers.
