Charlena Holbrook Bear, 86, of Olive Hill, KY, entered into rest Tuesday morning, November 15, 2022 at her residence. She was born October 31, 1936, at home in Elliott County, KY; a daughter of the late Walter Holbrook and Rosie Dyer Holbrook.
Charlena was a 63 year member of Macedonia Old Regular Baptist Church. Church was a big part of her life and time, but she also loved being outdoors; gardening, hunting, and fishing. Her family says she will always be remembered as “a mighty good woman”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Mary Middleton, Charmi Middleton, Beaulah Roar, Agnes Ward, and Lola Moore; and four brothers, Luster Holbrook, Homer Holbrook, Clabe Holbrook, and Troy Holbrook.
Charlena is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Floyd Bear; five daughters, Rachel Bear, Eunice Bear, Garnet Bear, Janice Bear, and Joyce Bear; one son, Harlan Bear; two grandchildren, Leevon Bear, and Harley (Daniel) Cook; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Cook, and Haisley Cook. In addition to these she leaves behind a host of family and friends that will cherish her memory.
The family also wishes to express their sincere gratitude to everyone who has helped care for Charlena and the family during these last several weeks. Your time and care has been greatly appreciated.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 18, 2022, at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow at the Clabe Holbrook Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 149 Whitt St., Olive Hill, KY 41164.
Elmo Holbrook, Wesley Holbrook, David Roar, Johnny Holbrook, Billy Joe Roar, and James "J.C." Zornes will serve as pallbearers.
Fred Schuller, Thomas Mattingly, Harlan Bear, Leevon Bear, and Ricky Roar have been named as honorary pallbearers.
