Ode Sammons
1948 - 2022
Ode Sammons, 73, of Olive Hill, KY, entered into rest Thursday morning, January 20, 2022, at the Wurtland Nursing Home in Wurtland, KY. He was born in Carter County, KY, on March 25, 1948, to the late Orval Sammons and Thelma Carroll Sammons.
Ode was a handyman by trade. He wanted to be working with his own hands and was a jack-of-all trades. A musician at heart, he could play a multitude of instruments, including the guitar, banjo, mandolin, and fiddle. But most of all, he loved his grandkids, which he warmly referred to as “his babies”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sabra Sammons, and Lilly Sammons; three brothers, Leroy Sammons, Charles “Charlie Boy” Sammons, and Ernest Sammons; one grandson, Randy Sammons; and his best friend, Earl Withrow.
Ode is survived by one daughter, Thelma Michelle (John Travis) Lilly; one son, Charles Sammons (Faye Salyers); one brother, Jim Sammons; six grandchildren, Steven Sammons, Tiffany Sammons, Kelley Sammons, Damian Sammons, Caden Sammons, and Mya Martinez; and five great-grandchildren, David Sammons, Lilly Sammons, Enesmai Sammons, Dazel Humbarger, and Scarlet Wages.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service with Terry Sublett officiating. Burial will follow at the Carroll & Sammons Cemetery in Olive Hill, KY.
Friends may visit from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday, January 24, 2022, at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 149 Whitt St., Olive Hill, KY 41164.
