Mildred Baney Obituary

Mildred Faye (Smith) Baney

 1930-2018

Mildred Faye Baney passed away December 21, 2018, at the age of 88, at her home in Grayson, KY. She was the daughter of Charles Walter and Cecil Mae (Ruby) Smith of Norwood, Missouri.  She was born in Cabool, Missouri on March 22, 1930.  She and her older sister, Eva Mae, are part of a vanishing era of children; getting their education in a one room rural school house.

She wed John Baney (a World War II veteran) and to this union they were blessed with four daughters; Dianna Kay, Lois Elaine, Rita Gay and Lora Lynn. Baptized at an early age, at a church camp, she remained steadfast, giving praise for blessings to her Savior, Jesus Christ.  Early life with her family was spent near Caldwell, Idaho; with John employed in the fruit orchards and Mildred working at a food processing plant in the area.  Several years she was employed by the Nampa Idaho State School for handicapped children.  She was “Your Friendly Avon Lady” and owned a gently used clothing store for many years.  Mildred moved to Kentucky in 2003 to be near her daughter Rita Duncan.  She enjoyed country and gospel music, day trips with Rita and family to see the beautiful scenery of Kentucky and visiting historical sites such as the Loretta Lynn birthplace.  She made many friends and relished the excursions with her friends at the Chapel and Friendship Houses in Grayson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by John; one granddaughter, Renee Lynn Speake; one grandson, Steven Wayne Bowling, one great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Sigman and one great-grandson Christopher Sigman.

She is survived by her sister, Eva Mae Mullins of Cabool, Mo.; four daughters, Dianna Kay Baney of Willow Springs, Mo.; Lois Speake and Lora Melton of Cabool, Mo. and Rita Duncan and her husband, Jerry, of Olive Hill, KY.; five granddaughters; four grandsons, many great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mildred will be laid to rest in the Cabool Community Cemetery near her parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Hospice.  Cards may be dropped off at the Friendship House desk or mailed in the care of Rita Duncan, 2144 State Hwy 1025, Olive Hill, KY 41164.

Arrangements are being conducted by Duvall and Moore Funeral Home of Olive Hill, KY and the Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool, Mo.
