Michael Henderson Obituary

Michael Brent Henderson

1949 -2024

Michael Brent Henderson, 74, of Sumter, South Carolina, formerly of Olive Hill, Kentucky and Tompkinsville, Kentucky respectively, entered into rest Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, SC. He was born April 18,1949 in Olive Hill, a son of the late Myra Sue Fielding Henderson and Leslie A. Henderson, Sr.

Brent was a 1967 graduate of Olive Hill High School and remained in contact with many of his classmates through the years.  After graduating high school, he attended Morehead State University and Eastern Kentucky University before working in the garment industry in several locations, including Olive Hill, Mt. Sterling, and Knoxville, TN.  In 1982, Brent moved to Tompkinsville, KY as the manager of Key Industries.  He lived and worked there until the plant burned and subsequently closed in 2004.  Brent met and married his wife Sandi in 2011.  They resided in Indiana before moving to South Carolina in search of warmer weather.

Brent could be described as having a playful, lighthearted personality, with an infectious sense of humor.  He loved to dance and was a “champion” limbo player. Brent loved Snyders BBQ chips and adamantly believed they were superior to all others.  He also enjoyed Ruth Hunt Cream Candy; and he and his daughter would stop for some each time they were traveling by the factory.

Brent was well known for joking and teasing his many friends and family, you never knew what to expect from one of his stories or jokes. It was always an adventure to bring new acquaintances to a family event because you never knew how he was going to playfully embarrass a newcomer; and rest assured, he always succeeded.  Brent had a wonderful laugh. The sound of his deep belly-laugh and picture of his straight lipped, tooth showing snicker is a cherished memory engrained in the hearts and minds of those he has left behind.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five brothers, L.A. Henderson, Marty Henderson, J.B. Henderson, Greg Henderson, and Nathan Henderson; one niece, Rachel Henderson Underwood; and two nephews, James Henderson, and David Henderson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Coe Henderson; one daughter, Brentni (John) Langdon of Fuquay Varina, NC; one son, Michael (Jill) Henderson of Fishers, IN; one stepson, Matt (Tonya) Coram of Bowling Green, KY; nine grandchildren, Cameron, Mia, Cassie, Darby, Owen, Zoe, Aiden, Lindy, and Isaac; one sister, Leslyn (Johnnie) Spaulding of Mt. Sterling, KY; and five sisters-in-law, Louise, Fran, Nancy, Vickey, all of Olive Hill, and Amy of Lexington. In addition to these he is survived by a host of family and friends who will greatly miss him and cherish his memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 PM (noon), April 20, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, 365 E. Tom T. Hall Blvd., Olive Hill, KY with family and friends officiating.
