Myrtle Kathryn Holbrook

1932-2024

Kathryn Holbrook, age 92 of Olive Hill, KY, entered into eternal life Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the Windsor Care Center in Mt. Sterling, KY, surrounded by her family. She was born February 11, 1932, in Olive Hill, KY, a daughter of the late Robert Nathaniel Hedge and Ruby Florence Scott Hedge.

Kathryn worked many years at the Olive Hill Finishing Company and Ashland Sales & Service. In her later years, she worked at Gateway and First Church of God childcare centers in Mt. Sterling.  A devout woman of faith, she was a lifetime member of James Chapel Community Holiness Church, where she was affectionately known as Sister Kathryn. She also attended the Preston First Church of God. Kathryn enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, sewing, working with her flowers and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arvel Holbrook, two daughters, Alma Louise Tackett and Charleen Maddix; her son, Danny Holbrook and daughter-in-law Glenna Holbrook, one son-in-law, Dallas Gilliam, as well as one brother, Bobby Joe Hedge.

She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Sue Gilliam of Olive Hill, Sherri Jeneese (Terry) Frerichs of Stanton, KY, and son-in-law, Sammy Maddix of Olive Hill; one sister, Barbara Sue Sammons of Olive Hill; one brother Clayton Clay Hedge of Irvine, KY; 12 grandchildren, Bobby Tackett, Wendy (Richard) Fletcher, Tammy (Toby) Ward, Michelle (John) Underwood, Sammy Lee Maddix, Lori (John) Wright, Danny Joe (Angie) Holbrook, Kyle (Alyssa) Frerichs, Nathan (Megan) Frerichs, Corey (Krista Jones) Frerichs, Casey (Brittany) Frerichs and Jeremy Frerichs; 21 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. In addition to these, Kathryn is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday April 20, 2024, at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Olive Hill with Bro. Terry Frerichs and Bro. Darryl Garvin officiating. Burial will follow in the Holbrook-Clay Cemetery in Olive Hill, KY.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Duvall & Moore Funeral Home, 149 Whitt Street, Olive Hill, KY

Pallbearers will be Nathan Frerichs, Corey Frerichs, Danny Joe Holbrook, Sammy Lee Maddix, Jonathan Underwood and John Underwood.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Frerichs, Casey Frerichs, Jeremy Frerichs, Sammy Sammons, David Sammons and Carmel Holbrook.
